Happy, sad, and everything in between.
These memories inform our nervous system of what the world is like. In response to this our mind creates beliefs and narratives to help us understand and manage our experiences.
When we work with the nervous system, we can release traumatic body memories and naturally your beliefs and narratives change as well.
During therapy, your current connection with life becomes the pathway through which we access the underlying physiological dysregulation and then as you release this, new insights and understandings arise which enable you to shift your perception of life and see new possibilities.
Somatics has become a popular term to use for many amazing approaches to working with the body, so I thought it timely to define how I work, as it could be quite different to another somatic practitioner.
I call myself a Somatic Psychotherapist because I work with your physical body AND your thoughts, emotions and subtle bodies.
I track how emotional, mental, physical and subtle energy traumas have affected you and then work with you to heal them.
I work with a variety of clients who find they are struggling with different aspects of the manifestation of trauma.
For some, it is in their relationships.
For some, in their sense of belonging in the world
For some, their bodies are experiencing dis-ease in many different ways.
For some, it is more about their mental health.
For some, it is about their ability to choose themselves…
...and many others.
Although I am trained as a counsellor, I am not working as one; rather, I use my counselling skills to wholeheartedly listen to your experience of the world and track how your body has stored energy that is affecting your experience of the world.
Then, together, we work with those energies to release, realign, rewire.
Feedback I often get after sessions working on specific energy pathways related to triggers is: ‘Oh my gosh, Liz, I was in that situation that normally triggers me like crazy and I had NO reaction to it this time!’ - that’s one of the outcomes of my work.
I also have people seek me out to help them with illnesses, disease and chronic pain.
I don’t give advice - I listen for the subtle communication from your body and help you to link this to your understanding of the world and together we walk the healing path.
Somatic Healing and Movement is a specialist practice that supports optimum nervous system regulation which is how we heal the imprints of trauma and can profoundly influence your life.
The science is in, our relationship with our body is the most important element in healing trauma.
Session time and costs:
Sessions run for between 90 and 110 minutes. They include intensive somatic work coupled with psychotherapy. Pricing is varied (see below), and concessions are available. My pricing reflects the fact that my sessions are up to twice the length of traditional psychotherapy sessions and the intensity of the work means that I can only see a limited number of clients at any given time.
Intake sessions: $330 per session
If you are brand new, there is an intake form to fill out, and during your first session, we can talk about your goals and, after the somatic work, how you'd like to proceed. Then I can map out a plan for you.
Subsequent sessions: $280 per session
If you plan to work with me intensively for a period of time, usually this is between 6 and 12 sessions. I offer discounts on upfront payments for your sessions.
Concessions: If you need a concession rate, please contact me at [email protected]. I know what it is like to feel challenged financially and I believe everyone deserves to be able to access the healing they are seeking.
Liz is an absolutely incredible and talented somatic therapist. If you think you need some help with your every day stress, traumas, anxiety and past issues then don’t delay in talking to her. I’ve done her six week course, one on one and a shadow workshop along with many of my friends. I can’t recommend her enough - just book and work on yourself - you won’t regret it!

Liz McComish is a highly experienced Mental Health Aware Yoga Teacher, Integrated Trauma Healing Practitioner and Somatic Therapist who has additional training in Counselling, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Fascia & Emotions, Somatic Interventions for Chronic Pain & Syndromes, Polyvagal Theory, Neuro-affective Touch.
Liz is well known for her ability to translate complex nervous system science into a practical felt-sense experience which is attainable by all.
Her desire to study and work with people's trauma and nervous systems was borne out of her recovery from her own trauma. Liz was a victim of institutional abuse when she was a child. This abuse caused huge trauma to her and the ensuing years were very challenging.
For Liz, she found the most powerful pathway to healing was through her relationship with her body. Bit by bit she was able to befriend her body, hold space for the pain to be processed and regain a love for her life.
Liz is passionate about helping others to walk this pathway and reclaim their lives as exciting mysteries unfolding rather than enduring pain to be navigated.
Her in-person therapy, online offerings, workshops and retreats are life changing.
